The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
