Yum! Brands is reviewing possibilities for a potential sale of its Pizza Hut chain, as the well-known pizza provider faces difficulties to compete effectively against industry rivals in capturing cost-aware consumers.
Pizza Hut has documented multiple consecutive financial reporting periods of declining existing location revenue in the US market - a key region that accounts for 42% of its global revenue. The American market difficulties have weighed down the overall business, while simultaneously revenue generation shows growth in some international territories.
"Pizza Hut's operational showing indicates the necessity to pursue extra steps to support the organization achieve its maximum potential value, which may be optimally executed outside of Yum! Brands," remarked the company's chief executive in an official statement.
The top official further added that "various options" were being carefully considered for the food service unit.
Pizza Hut, which witnessed sales revenue at its established locations decrease nearly one percent collectively during the current reporting period, has regularly lagged other significant players within the Yum! business collection. Significantly, KFC and Taco Bell, which is widely recognized for its low-price menu items, have both shown resilience in current results.
Yum! creates roughly 11% of its functional income from its Pizza Hut business segment. The company operates about 20,000 Pizza Hut outlets globally, with nearly 6,500 of these situated in the United States.
Business opponents in the pizza market, such as Papa Johns and Domino's Pizza, continue to expand their position, exacerbating Pizza Hut's continuing struggles to remain relevant.
